Understanding Trauma

Trauma isn’t just about what happened, it’s about how those experiences still live within you.

Trauma isn’t just what happened to you, it’s also the impact those experiences leave behind. It can live in the body as tension, in the mind as racing thoughts or memories that won’t settle, and in the heart as a lingering sense of fear, shame, or disconnection. Sometimes trauma begins with sudden experiences, but more often it comes from the ongoing dynamics with those who were supposed to keep us safe: parents, family, partners or trusted confidants. Especially in childhood, these wounds can leave deep imprints that shape how we see ourselves and others.

You don’t need to have gone through a single “big” event for it to matter. Trauma can also build slowly over years, through constant stress, painful dynamics, or feeling unseen and unsupported. And while it can feel isolating, trauma is not a life sentence.

Therapy offers a safe, compassionate space to process what you’ve been through at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we can begin to make sense of your story, ease the weight of what you carry, and help you reconnect with strength, safety, and a sense of being alive again. Healing doesn’t erase the past, but it can transform how you live with it, and open space for new possibilities.
